BLOGGURU<\/strong> \u2013 Alhamdulillah, satu kesyukuran dan kebahagiaan tersendiri dapat mereguk nikmatnya menuntut ilmu dan pembelajaran tanpa batas. Semuanya ini dapat terwujud atas berkah waktu luang, kesempatan, dan kesehatan yang baik. Akhir pekan ini, Sabtu (23\/8\/2025), penulis mengikuti 3 kursus \u201cHistory of Reading Tutorial (1-3)” di situs OpenLearn, the Open University yang berpusat di Inggris, dengan kampus utama di Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, Inggris (United Kingdom).<\/p>\n

The Open University ini sudah lama penulis akrabi pembelajaran jarak jauh yang ditawarkannya. Semua bersifat Free (gratis) di situs OpenLearn, termasuk sertifikat tanda penyelesaian kursus yang disebut \u201cStatement of Participation\u201d. How do we know what people read in the past, and how they read it? This free course, History of reading tutorial 1: Finding evidence of reading in the past, is the first in a series of tutorials designed to help users of the UK Reading Experience Database (UK RED) search, browse and use the resource, and explores the types of evidence historians have uncovered about the history of reading. Tutorial 2 (Red_2) and Tutorial 3 (Red_3) look at how this evidence can be used to tell us about the reception of a literary text and to demonstrate the impact of a writers reading on their literary output. UK RED is a resource built and maintained at The Open University.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Course learning outcomes<\/strong><\/p>\n

After studying this course, you should be able to: (1)\u00a0demonstrate a basic knowledge of the debates about the evidence of reading, understanding distinctions between ‘hard’ or quantitative data and ‘soft’ or qualitative data, (2)\u00a0understand an overview of some of the types of evidence scholars have used to construct the UK RED and their relative merits as primary sources, (3)\u00a0identify different sources when looking at individual entries in the UK RED, and (4) experiment with applying different methods of analysis to sets of records in the UK RED, including the application of quantitative and qualitative methods.<\/p>\n

This free course, History of reading tutorial 2: The reading and reception of literary texts a case study of Robinson Crusoe, is the second tutorial in a series designed to help users of the UK Reading Experience Database (UK RED) search, browse and use this resource, and explores the use of historical evidence to understand the reading and reception of a literary text, in this case Daniel Defoes Robinson Crusoe. The first tutorial in this series (Red_1) shows how historians have uncovered evidence of reading in the past, while the next tutorial (Red_3) demonstrates how evidence of a writers reading can add to our understanding of their literary output. The previous tutorials focus on methods of uncovering evidence of reading, and the use of evidence to understand the reception of a literary text. After studying this course, you should be able to: (1)\u00a0perform advanced searches of data held on the UK RED site, including locating evidence by place of reading experience or by combining search queries, (2)\u00a0recognise development in evaluative and interpretative skills in handling a range of source material, and (3)\u00a0understand how evidence on the UK RED site might be useful in shaping broader studies of writers’ reading, biography, and cultural and literary history.<\/p>\n
