BLOGGURU – This Hadith on Quran: Earth testifies to what people did on its surface
Abu Huraira (Radi Allahu Anhu) reported: The Messenger of Allah (Subhana wa ta’ala),(Sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) recited this verse, “On that day the earth will tell its stories,” (Quran: 99:4) and he said, “Do you know what are its stories?” They said, “Allah (Subhana wa ta’ala) and His Messenger (Sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) know best.” The Prophet (Sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said, “Verily, its stories are that it will bear witness against every servant and maidservant to what they did on its surface, saying this person did such on such day. These are its stories.”

Several witnesses in the court of divine justice…
The Day of Resurrection will be the day of full and complete manifestation of Divine Justice. The good of the tiniest good deed will not be omitted. Organs and limbs of the body will start speaking for the manifestation of Justice and for the finality of arguments.
In Islam, it is Allah’s (Subhana wa ta’ala) commandment that every fact can be established with the testimony of two just witnesses. This is clear argument of religion. There must be either self-confession or the appearance of two just and selfless witnesses with stipulated conditions. But tomorrow on the Day of Resurrection, notwithstanding that man himself is aware:
…”your own self is sufficient as a reckoner against you this day”(Quran: 17:14).
“And they shall say to their skins: Why have you borne witness against us? They shall say: Allah Who makes everything speak has made us speak… (Quran: 41:21).
The fellow does not confess. But then so many testimonies begin to pour from every side that he has to submit willy-nilly. The first witnesses are his physical limbs and organs. Can he deny the testimony of his own organs? The second witness is the ground. Every part of earth on which one sinned will speak out. Likewise if he had worshipped Allah (Subhana wa ta’ala) that part of earth will testify to that also.
“on that Day the earth will recount everything..” (Quran: 99:4).
Time too will testify. Qiyamat is the world of gathering. The days of one’s lifespan become a stage of time (existence) and it will testify how and what happened. Among the witnesses are also the two recording angels. The prophets of every age will testify about the deeds of the people of his time. The Holy Quran also says:
“And thus we have made you a just community that you will be witnesses over the people and the Messenger will be a witness over you. And We did not make the qiblah which you used to face except that We might make evident who would follow the Messenger from who would turn back on his heels. And indeed, it is difficult except for those whom Allah has guided. And never would Allah have caused you to lose your faith. Indeed Allah is, to the people, Kind and Merciful.”
(Quran: 2:143).
The ability to speak is common to all in this universe. All the particles of the existing universe, which in our eyes are dumb, from the view of the unseen world they are capable of speech.
“The seven heavens and the earth and everyone in them glorify Him. There is not a single thing that does not celebrate His praise, though you do not understand their praise: He is most forbearing, most forgiving..” (Quran: 17:44).
After death, man goes to the ethereal world. If now you understand, you can hear the voice in the cosmos. Walls and doors are saying, “Glory be to Allah (Subhana wa ta’ala)”. The organs of your own body also are glorifying Allah (Subhana wa ta’ala).Of course this glorification is beyond the comprehension of matter and hence man does not understand it.
“but you do not understand their glorification…” (Quran: 17:44).
Tomorrow, on the Day of Judgment, Allah (Subhana wa ta’ala) Who has made all the particles of the universe speak in the spiritual plane, will make them speak and order them to confess what they had done in the world. Even the tiniest deed will not be omitted and in that Grand Witness Box in the Supreme Court, witnesses will not be able to lie. They will testify absolutely truthfully.
“When the earth is shaken with its [final] earthquake And the earth discharges its burdens And man says, “What is [wrong] with it?” – That Day, it will report its news Because your Lord has commanded it. That Day, the people will depart separated [into categories] to be shown [the result of] their deeds. So whoever does an atom’s weight of good will see it, And whoever does an atom’s weight of evil will see it” (Quran: 99:1-8).
Each organ of a person’s body and even the Earth and the skies will testify against him/her:
“And do not pursue that of which you have no knowledge. Indeed, the hearing, the sight and the heart – about all those [one] will be questioned” (Quran: 17:36).
And there will be no way to hide any deed that man has done because Allah (Subhana wa ta’ala) knows all that is in the past and all that is in our hearts.
“The Day every soul will find what it has done of good present [before it] and what it has done of evil, it will wish that between itself and that [evil] was a great distance. And Allah warns you of Himself, and Allah is Kind to [His] servants” (Quran: 3:30).
The accounts of every man and his deeds will be opened, clarified and judged by Allah (Subhana wa ta’ala) and verdicts will be passed. And those who were the pious and good men of Allah (Subhana wa ta’ala) will see Paradise and those who did nothing but create havoc and were the evil doers, they will surely see Hell.
“And We place the scales of justice for the Day of Resurrection, so no soul will be treated unjustly at all. And if there is [even] the weight of a mustard seed, We will bring it forth. And sufficient are We as accountant” (Quran: 21:47).
“And fear a Day when you will be returned to Allah . Then every soul will be compensated for what it earned, and they will not be treated unjustly” (Quran: 2:281).
The Day of Judgement will surely be a testing time for all of the mankind but Allah (Subhana wa ta’ala) Almighty has promised justice for all and we should expect it.
Ramadan is fast approaching to conclude for this year. During the last days of Ramadan make as much effort as possible to connect with your lord Allah (Subhana wa ta’ala ) to forgive our sins and reform us to become better Muslims. (*)
