IMMIMPANGKEP – This Hadith is about Suhoor (Indonesia: Sahur)
Narrated `Abdullah (Radi Allahu Anhu): The Prophet (peace be upon him) fasted for days continuously; the people also did the same but it was difficult for them. So, the Prophet (peace be upon him) forbade them (to fast continuously for more than one day). They said, “But you fast without break (no food was taken in the evening or in the morning).” The Prophet (peace be upon him) replied, “I am not like you, for I am provided with food and drink (by Allah (Subhanahu wa ta’ala).”
(Reference : Sahih al-Bukhari 1922, In-book reference : Book 30, Hadith 31).
The Suhoor and Iftar times are a blessing from Allah (Subhanahu wa ta’ala) and break up your fasts to avoid fasting continuously. It is an opportunity to put a measured amount of food that will fuel you for the day ahead and night of worship.
***
Narrated Sahl bin Sa`d (Radi Allahu Anhu): I used to take my Suhur meals with my family and then hurry up for presenting myself for the (Fajr) prayer with Allah’s (Subhanahu wa ta’ala) Messenger (peace be upon him).
(Reference : Sahih al-Bukhari 1920, In-book reference : Book 30, Hadith 29)
Suhoor with family is an opportunity to spread the blessings as you begin your fast. Wake up family, make it a time for reflection, thankfulness and ask for the fast to be blessed. Eat Suhoor together and pray with your parents, children, spouses and family. If you’re able to, why not even read some Qur’an immediately after and start the day in the best possible way? (*)
